As Vice President in Sussex’s Energy and Environment Practice, David is responsible for advising a range of international and domestic clients on matters related to energy policy matters, regulatory affairs, procurement as well mergers and acquisitions. He joined the firm in 2014 after a number of years as Vice President of Strategic Affairs for a global independent power producer, utility and asset management company.
David is a highly accomplished executive who has played a prominent role in the advancement of the independent power sector in Canada over the past 16 years. He has managed due diligence on over $1 billion of large-scale energy transactions, led business development initiatives for multiple projects in Canada and the United States, authored strategic market and policy studies (including on tax assessments for energy projects) and secured regulatory approvals on close to 1GW of energy projects across the country. David has also developed successful public affairs and community outreach campaigns, has worked with provincial and municipal governments advancing energy projects, and has experience in facilitating the inception, implementation and amendment of multiple energy procurement regimes.
David regularly speaks at conferences and events across the country focusing on public policy, government relations, community engagement and communications.
David is a Past Chair of the Canadian Wind Energy Association's Board of Directors (CanWEA) and was appointed by the Ontario Minister of Energy to the Ontario Clean Energy and Supply Task Force as well as the Ontario Power Authority’s Stakeholder Advisory Committee. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of CanWEA and serve on a number of advisory committees across the country.
